Located around 12 km from Pahalgam Aru is a scenic village surrounded by lakes mountains and meadows. The village is base camp for trekkers to the Tarsar-Marsar lakes the Kolahoi Glacier, and the Katrinag valley. It is also the base for trekking to Lidderwat, Vishansar-Kishansar lakes and Kangan. The Kolahoi is the largest glacier in Kashmir Valley, located near Mt. Kolahoi (5425m), the highest peak in the Valley.
Aru Valley living
The valley is filled with around 20 clear water alpine lakes and meadows. Winter here receives heavy snow and makes it the best destination for enduring winter sports like skiing and heli-skiing. Popular traditional activities include trout fishing trekking, hiking, horse riding, apple cultivation and sheep husbandry. You can enjoy fresh local products from Aru’s own organic farms and from the farmer’s market.
Treks from Aru Valley
Numerous trekking expeditions happen from Aru, Among them, Tarsar-Marsar is a very less explored trek taking place in the summer accompanied by several small treks. It comprises of exploring of two high altitudes, Tarsar and Marsar Lake lie at an altitude of 12500 ft.

- Day 4: Seikiwaas to Tarsar Lake(12464ft)
- Day 5: Tarsar to Sundarsarvia Sonamous Pass(12960 ft)
- Day 6: Sundarsar to Homwas via Marsar Lake and ridge
- Day 7: Back to Aru Valley
